Fall Activities in Northwestern Connecticut

Who is ready to welcome fall with open arms? Hoodies, pumpkins, apples, fairs, foliage...the fall is one of my favorite seasons. I sort of wish we could just bottle up the weather year round! Fall in Northwestern Connecticut is absolutely beautiful. The leaves are turning vibrant shades of orange, yellow, and red -- and there are just so many fun activities for families!! Today I'd like to share a few of my favorites.

Fall Activities in Northwestern Connecticut

Ruwet Farm Pumpkin Patch (Torrington, CT)- We visited Ruwet Farm a few years ago, and definitely need to go back. This is the perfect farm for pumpkin picking. They even offer a FREE hayride to go and pick your own pumpkins! They also have gourds, Indian corn, winter squash, and much more for fall decorating!

Riverton Fair (Riverton, CT October 9-11th, 2015) - This is one of our favorite fairs of the season...and it just so happens to be 5 minutes from our house! Going to this fair is a family tradition for us. It's one of those fairs you go to, and you know you will run into someone you know! It's the perfect size, and offers something for all ages!

Naugatuck Railroad (Thomaston, CT) - Enjoy a scenic train ride with your family along the Naugatuck River. This is a great ride to view the beautiful fall foliage -- and we all know how much little ones love their "choo choo's!"

Give-a-Treat, Get-a-Treat at The Shoppes at Farmington Valley (Canton, CT) - This event is usually held the Monday before Halloween, from 5-7pm. You bring a non-perishable food item, and receive a bag to go trick-or-treating around the shops! It is seriously SO much fun, and I love that it's super safe!! We make a whole night of it!

Pick your own Apples at March Farm (Bethlehem, CT) - Something I have never done, but have always wanted to do, is pick your own apples. I recently scouted out March Farm, and I am looking forward to planning a day there with my family. Besides picking delicious apples, there are also animals, a hayloft playscape, and a corn maze! What a fun day!!

The Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce (Weekends in October, Bristol, CT) - While my kids are still a bit too young for this, it definitely seems like a fun night for families with older kiddos! If you're interested in just visiting the park and going on the rides, you can purchase a "ride only" ticket -- which would be perfect for us!

Hayrides at Flamig Farm (West Simsbury, CT) - Flamig Farm offers two hayride options. Their daytime scenic hayride is perfect for those with little ones. while their nighttime haunted hayrides are a bit spooky! If you're visiting during the day, you can visit their petting zoo, and go for a pony ride! I will definitely be planning a trip to Flamig Farm soon!

What are your favorite family friendly activities to do during the fall season?

  1. I have to check my calendar and see if we can make any of these events. Thanks

  2. Fall was my favorite season when my kids were small. They are older now, but we still love our annual apple and pumping picking excursions as well as attending one of the local agricultural fairs.
