The Story of a Dreamer

The latest directorial effort of Ben Stiller “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, eagerly awaited by film critics, debuted at the 51st International Film Festival in New York held in September 27 - October 13, and the premiere of the film is scheduled for December, 25.

This warm and very vital comedy is based on a collection of stories named "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" of American writer James Thurber. Ben Stiller masterfully revived this lyrical work
written in the last century and enriched the history with contemporary details, becoming the main hero in the film. The actor was very pleased with the opportunity to present his film at such a prestigious festival, especially since the public had an opportunity to see there the legendary Hollywood star Shirley MacLaine, still being in great shape incidentally.

The film's protagonist Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) is a modest and shy worker, whiling away the
tedious working hours by a sort of "visits" in his own unreal world full of fantastic adventure, action, and romance.  In this world he is fearless and resolute - the exact contrast of what he is in reality.  Facing the real danger, he turns out to be quite capable of true heroic deeds, believing in his courage and strength.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a comedy about a good eccentric Walter (Ben Stiller), who works as a copy editor in the popular magazine «Life». In his dreams he is strong, handsome and charming. And most importantly - he is ready to perform a feat. At any time our hero can dip into his dreams and stop noticing anything around. And no matter that his boring and monotonous work portends nothing new. Everything went on as usual and nothing new happened until Walter met with a mysterious woman. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is an adaptation of James Thurber's brilliant story. The author manages to accurately portray the extraordinary visionary and his isolation from what is happening around. There were some efforts to film the story before. In 1947 they released the film version of story which differed significantly from the original source, however, retaining the style and mood of the story adapted to our time. The director of the present version of the film was named Ben Stiller who played the main role. Having about 100 films under belt, this film became the eleventh directorial work for Stiller. Now Ben Stiller gained an opportunity to move the dreamer from the story of James Thurber into the diverse and challenging modern life with its social networks, dismissals and upgrades and develop the story further in comedy, drama and cinematic terms, adding here all the visual possibilities of modern filmmaking.
