2012 in Review

As we welcome a new year, I thought it would be fun to recap 2012.  Let's go back and see what happened with my family in one years time.

January:

I opened up to you about my thyroid cancer, and why I am incredibly thankful.  I also shared where we got Lincoln's name...and it's probably not from who you think!

February:

I asked you who Lincoln looks more like, the hubs or me.

I also told you about what it's like to be married with children and celebrate Valentine's Day. I reminded you just how ridiculously huge I was, and shared some baby bump photos

March:

Lincoln had his early intervention evaluation, and qualified for the program for his speech delay.   Definitely the biggest event that happened, not only in March, but this year, my Dad received the call for his liver transplant.   It was also around this time that Jared and I started to talk about conceiving baby #2

April:

I shared my frustrations with my Dad while he recovered from his liver transplant.  I also recapped our trip to Disney while we were in Florida.

I decided that I wasn't busy enough [insert extreme sarcasm], and decided to open an etsy shop

May

I shared my take on a very controversial issue.  Jared and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary.

 June

I recapped our annual beach vacation

misquamicut beach

I showed you all Lincoln's amazing dance moves.   Lincoln also visited his first water park, and he loved every second of it.

July

My family lost a beloved pet, and mourned his loss.

I updated you on my dads recovery with his transplant and Lincoln called me "Momma" for the first time.  I also shared what I want to be when I grow up.

August:

After one year, my Dad finally came home from living in Florida to receive his transplant.  I also attended BlogHer12 in NYC, and shared my experience with you.

nyc collage

We visited Florida again and I told you about the Magic Kingdom.

it's a small world collage

September:

We visited Story Land in New Hampshire.

I shared the joys of potty training and my best friend gave birth to her sweet, precious miracle twin boys

October:

Lincoln made his first ebay purchase.  He also had his pre-k evaluation.  We visited a local pumpkin patch, and plan on making it a yearly tradition.

November:

I recapped our wedding week in Florida, and included several photos of the cutest little ring bearer I ever did see.

I shared a sad story with you all, and asked for your thoughts and prayers.  My sweet Lincoln turned 3 years old, and we celebrated with a Jake & the Neverland Pirates birthday bash!!

December:

I am suddenly the parent of a preschooler

I shared our Christmas traditions and some adorable holiday photos.

I talked about the details of my recent miscarriage.   We took Lincoln on the Polar Express, and he got to wear the conductors hat!

We also had a fantastic Christmas, that I still have yet to blog about.  I promise that will be coming soon.

2012 had some ups and downs.  I'm the type of person that likes to focus on the "ups."  2013 is going to be a great year, I just know it!

{Weekly Roundup!} - & a yummy recipe!

I haven't done one of these posts in a long time, and because of our insanely busy week, I figured it was long overdue!

We visited Christmas Village, one evening with Lincoln and his cousin Cayden.  This place is so magical for children.  It's set up to resemble The North Pole.  There is a toy workshop with "elves," and all 9 reindeer! The Santa there is fabulous.  He spends a good amount of time with each child.  When he asked Lincoln his name, he replied "airplane."  Silly boy.

One of my favorite things about Lincoln being in preschool is all the handmade art I get almost every day.  This week, we got something extra special.  He came home from school with a wrapped gift for Jared and me.  He was SO excited for us to open it.

When I did open it, I seriously got attacked with more glitter than I have ever seen!

And....the cutest, sweetest ornament ever..

I love love LOVE it.  It's proudly displayed on our tree.  And the happiness that I saw across my sons face when we opened his present, is a moment I will forever cherish.

I feel like I never talk about our sweet Evy pup.  While she may look sweet and innocent in this photo, don't let her fool you!  Lately she's been destroying anything and everything she can within our house!  It looks like she's having some major separation anxiety whenever we leave the house.  While I hate to do it, we're breaking out the crate again.  Literally every single time we came home this week, something was destroyed.  And, it was always something of Lincoln's, which of course made it that much worse.

I know she's completely doing it out of spite.  The other day she was alone for 20 freaking minutes, and managed to destroy one of Lincoln's Melissa & Doug wooden airplanes :(

But she is still sweet, and we do love her.

Last night we started our holiday baking!  Check out these yummy goodies...

They look pretty scrumptious, right?!  And let me tell you, they are!!!  In fact, I will have to make these again for Christmas, because there are only a few left!!

And for those who would like the recipe, it's easy peasy:

What you need:  either round or square pretzels, Hershey kisses, M&M's.

-Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

-Line baking sheet with wax paper, and place pretzels on paper.

-Top with Hershey kisses.

-Place in oven.  This is the tricky part, because there is no set time they're in the oven.  You have to carefully watch them, and watch the chocolate melt, but not melt TOO much.  Ours were in the oven for about 3 minutes.

-When they come out of the oven, you top them with an M&M, and then place them in the freezer to harden.

That's it.

And, they're so freaking yummy!! Like I said, we need to make more :)

So, there's our week.  Today I'm hoping to make some handmade ornaments with Lincoln.

This weekend we'll finish getting the house ready for Christmas day.  And then Monday, the festivities begin!  I am so looking forward to celebrating with my little family this year.  We have so much to be thankful for.

xoxo

Santa?!? I Know Him!!!

A couple of weeks ago, we took Lincoln to see Santa.  We've been trying to get him excited about Santa, and pointing him out whenever we see him on TV, or in books.  His cousin, Cayden came along too.

The boys are exactly one month apart, and they're seriously best friends.  It's so great to watch them grow up together.  They love each other so very much.

While we waited our turn to visit with Santa, they had this awesome little set up that actually involved snow!  Well, fake snow, anyways, but the boys didn't seem to care :)

Cayden was a little unsure of Santa, so Lincoln went first.  Because Lincoln's been to Disney World many times this year, I figured he would be okay.

And?  I was correct!

toddler boy and santa

Although I am very happy with how the picture turned out, and I think Santa looks great, real beard and all, I was really disappointed in Santa.  He didn't say two words!  No "Merry Christmas."  No "Ho Ho Ho."  Nothing.

Because of our unfriendly Santa, Cayden was still a little unsure about sitting on this jolly old man's lap.  Can't say as I'd blame him!

We asked Lincoln if he'd sit with his buddy, and he happily did.  I love how this photo turned out.

Afterwards, we walked around the mall a bit with the boys and went out for lunch...which is always fun with two 3 year olds!

Did I mention how much these boys love each other?

Did you take your kids to see Santa this year?  I hope he was friendlier than ours!!

xoxo

Proflowers - Review

Proflowers is a leading online retailer that has been providing fresh products for its consumers since 1998.   If you're like me, when I first heard of the name, "Proflowers," I immediately thought they sold only flowers.  Boy was I wrong!

Of course they sell flowers.  Beautiful bouquets of fresh, vibrant colors.  However, they also carry many other gift products, such as chocolates, cookies, fruit and gift baskets.

There are seriously SO many choices!

I was sent two dozen, gourmet chocolate covered strawberries.  They arrived to my doorstep in a pretty, decorated box.

And then I opened the box, and OHMYGOD!!!!!!!

While some people may have stored these fresh berries away for company, I however, did not.  And, I can honestly say, between myself and my husband, these yummy treats didn't last 24 hours in our house!

I'm serious.  They were THAT good.

Ordering these berries from Proflowers was a breeze.  I even got to choose the day they would be delivered.

I wasn't sure how fresh the strawberries would be, but I was very impressed.  They were so incredibly yummy.

Do you have some last minute holiday shopping to do?  There's still plenty of time to order from Proflowers!

Special thanks to the folks at Proflowers for sending me these berries to review free of charge.  All opinions expressed are my own.

The Polar Express Train Ride

Last week when I shared our Christmas traditions with you, I mentioned taking Lincoln on a train ride.  Normally called, "The Polar Express."

This past weekend, for the first time, we started this annual tradition.

We started the evening watching the movie at home.  When it was time to go, we asked Lincoln if he was ready to ride a "choo-choo."  Of course he said, "YES!!"  I mean, what 3 year old doesn't want to ride a choo-choo?!

We piled up in two separate cars.  There were 6 of us adults going along on this train ride, for this one little boy :)

When we arrived at the train station, Lincoln was a bit in awe...

toddler boy train

While we waited for our train to arrive, Lincoln started, mesmerized by the interactive train they had in the station.

Before we knew it, it was time to board the train.  We handed Lincoln his very own ticket.

Seriously, I cannot tell you how excited he was about that ticket.  He didn't let it go the entire train ride.  Well, except when he was literally trying to lose his ticket, trying to push it out the window.  Sort of like they do in the movie.  Silly boy seemed like he was trying to reenact the movie!

When the conductor came to punch the tickets, Lincoln eagerly handed him over his ticket.  I think he was a bit disappointed that his ticket wasn't punched to say, "Believe."

My Mom, Lincoln's Grammy, was one of the people with us.  I'm not sure who was more excited, him or her :)

Mrs. Claus joined us on our ride.  Notice he's still holding his ticket...

When Santa arrived, he surprisingly got a little shy!  He even laid down on Santa's lap!

The conductor came back over to us, and placed his hat on Lincoln's head.  He seriously made a little boys dream come true!

And then, he placed it on my head.  Lincoln thought that was pretty neat, too!

The train ride was one hour and fifteen minutes, and my sweet Lincoln enjoyed each and every second of it.

We will absolutely continue this annual tradition with him.  Next year, we'll visit a different train station.  There are so many of them around!  I'd like to do one where we wear our pajamas and have hot chocolate :)

xoxo
