Weekly Roundup

The weather this week was beautiful.  If I could have bottled it up, I would have.  Needless to say, Lincoln and I spent a lot of time outside.

One of his favorite activities [like any other 2 1/2 year old], is bubbles!  I swear he could blow and pop bubbles all day long.

I just adore this photo.  While Lincoln is a pretty big boy for his age, he looks awfully small in our big open yard.

One of my favorite things to do in the summertime, is go to our nearby Dairy Queen and indulge on an ice cream cone covered in sprinkles.
That is heaven in my mouth.  And, you know our sweet Lincoln had to get a cone as well...

Sure it was messy, but boy did he enjoy it!  In other news, my parents got themselves a new puppy this week.  They decided on another golden retriever.  A sweet little boy, Simba.  I won't get to meet him until next week, but they sent me some pictures.  He's freaking adorable.

Of course he is not a replacement for Brady, by any means.  My Dad is still very devestated about the loss of his faithful friend.  And honestly, we all are.  However, little Simba will help my Dad heal.  Who doesn't love a sweet puppy?

Next week I promise to write about our recap from Epcot and Hollywood Studios.  In the meantime, you can read my recap from the Magic Kingdom

Hope you all enjoy your Labor Day weekend!  Anyone have fun plans?  We're going to a party tomorrow night, and we're hoping to take Lincoln to a nearby fair!  Lots of pictures to follow :)

Magic Kingdom // Disney World Recap

As promised last week, I am going to be breaking down our vacation to Florida in individual posts.  We did SO much, that to include it in just one post would be incredibly overwhelming!  So with that.  Here we go.

disney world

The first park we ventured out to, was the Magic Kingdom.  As much as I adore this park, I hate how crowded it always is!  But, I suppose that's to be expected!

Lincoln is completely 100% obsessed with trains.  Or "choo-choo's," as he calls them.  So our first stop, was to jump on board the Magic Kingdom Railroad!

Look how excited my boy is...[& notice is little hand in the proper "choo choo" motion].

magic kingdom

We all enjoyed the train ride.  If you choose to take a round trip, which of course we did, it's about 20 minutes long.  Plenty enough time for my train loving boy to shout out "choo-choo" multiple times!

Did you know Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride is completely revamped?!  And let me tell you. It's freaking awesome.  If you've been to Disney before, you are well aware that the line for Dumbo was beyond ridic.  In fact, although we've been to the Magic Kingdom before, we chose to not take Lincoln on this ride, because of the long wait.  HOWEVER, let me tell you how Disney rocked this.

For starters, their are now TWO Dumbo rides.  They are both located right next to each other, and they both are part of the same line.

If that isn't awesome enough, here's how the new Dumbo "line" works:  You walk into this AIR CONDITIONED building, and walk straight to a reservation desk.  Just like at a restaurant, the attendant asks how many are in your party and hands you a buzzer.  We were told our estimated wait time would be 20 minutes.

It gets better.

While we're waiting to ride Dumbo, there's an INDOOR play area for the kids!  How incredibly genius is that?!

When your buzzer goes off, you are escorted to the line for Dumbo.  We were in that line for only about 5 minutes.  Well done, Disney.  Well done.

We didn't get a photo of us in the actual ride, but I did snap this quick shot of Lincoln afterwards...

dumbo the flying elephant

Next stop was to head over to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.  Lincoln is Toy Story obsessed, and he LOVES Buzz.  This is one of his favorite rides at Disney World.  When we came off the ride, guess who was waiting to meet Lincoln?!

Oh yes, it was Buzz himself!  Lincoln was thrilled!  And honestly? I was a bit surprised because Buzz was ridiculously HUGE, and rather intimidating looking!  But I'm so proud of my boy...

buzz light year, toy story

He kept trying to push Buzz's buttons, which was hysterical.  He enjoyed meeting him so much, that we practically had to drag our sweet boy away!  We told him other kids needed to meet Buzz, but Lincoln was a bit upset :(

As much as my husband hates this ride, Lincoln and I both enjoy "It's a Small World."  And seriously? How can you NOT enjoy that ride?  It's a Disney classic!

Lincoln loves that it's on a boat, and he literally clapped to the song the entire time.

it's a small world

We left the park relatively early.  It was hot, and Lincoln was pretty much done for the day.  But, we did manage to get one heck of a cute family photo :)

magic kingdom

We had a great family day.  Lots of fun, indeed.  The Magic Kingdom is supposed to be opening the rest of their Fantasyland expansion some time in early November. Unfortunately, our next trip is for my Aunt's wedding at the end of October.  You think they'll open it early for us?! ;)

Toddler Talk

Because Lincoln's vocabulary is expanding, and he's at such a hilarious age right now, I thought I would start publishing what I am going to call "Tot Talk."  Simply put...things my kid says!

To kick this off, here is our first edition of Toddler Talk...

I think we need to work on this one...

August Bluum Box

august bluum box

Are you all ready to hear about this month's Bluum box?!?  Well, you should be.  Because this month was fantastic!  Here's what was inside my box this month...

Triple Cream -- A brandy new FULL SIZE bottle.  You know this stuff retails for $10.99, right?  And Bluum box is just $11 per month?  Okay.  Just checkin'.  Needless to say I was thrilled about this addition.

Mary Kay Makeup Remover & Lash Love Mascara -- While this is something I'd expect to see in my Birchbox, I was pleasantly surprised to see it in my Bluum box!  And?  I'm a mascara junkie, so it's a win win!

Skin Free Sleep Tight Spritz -- This is a little spray that you simply mist onto your pillow, or clothing and you'll drift off to a peaceful slumber.  Not convinced?  Me either, but it smells nice ;)

Caldrea Hand Soap --  I received two small samples of these soaps.  Although I haven't tried them out yet, you can never have too much soap!!

Gin Gins Ginger Candy -- Well that certainly is a tongue twister!  This candy is designed to fight off nausea.  I think I'll tuck these samples away for when I'm pregnant with babe #2.

GO Energy for the Skin Face Cleaner & Moisturizer -- GO is the first skincare treatment designed specifically to help improve blood circulation.  Hmm.  Worth a try!

There you have it!  My August Bluum Box!  Want to join in on the fun?  Click here!!

Steppin' Out 8-25-12 // Wedding Style

This past Saturday, one of my best childhood friends got married.  My whole family was invited (ourselves, along with my parents and brother), so it was something we were all looking forward to.

I really don't get the opportunity to dress up anymore, so I was pretty psyched!  And?  That also meant my hot hubby would be wearing a suit!

Check us out looking all fancy...

Deets // All my clothes AND Jared's are from Kohls.  My necklace is from Tiffany & Co. and my earrings & bracelet (not pictured) are from Jack & Jo's Boutique.

They also had a photo booth there!!  Such fun!  I feel so old, because they didn't have these sort of things when Jared and I got married 5 years ago!  I think they're a great addition to weddings, especially for guests!!

OH...and you know that moment when you're too short for the photo booth....yes.  That happened.

We decided we had to attempt another shot.  This time I moved back much further in the booth.  It was much more successful!

I also dragged my "baby" brother into the booth.  I'm sure these photos made our parents quite proud...

A fantatic night, for sure!  OH.  And Lincoln?  Well, he was getting spoiled to pieces by his aunties and cousins.  He had a blast!

Baby Burlesque {Guest Post}

Today, I have Melissa from Growing Up Geeky, taking over my space for the day.  I met Melissa a couple of weeks ago at BlogHer12! I've followed her blog for awhile, so it was nice to meet the person behind the words!  AND?  Don't let her fool you, she has the cutest baby bump!

Hi! I'm Melissa from Growing Up Geeky. Married to Mike, a mad scientist, I am a stay-at-home Mom to my 19-month-old daughter Carina, and the soon-to-be new baby! Mike is an oboe playing organic chemist & I am a former Math-lete and self-proclaimed domestic failure. I think it's safe to say that our kids won't have a prayer at being cool. My blog celebrates our quirks and outright geekiness and provides you with a healthy dose of super cute baby. Please come visit and watch as I grow to freakishly huge proportions.

Skimpy little outfits with feathers and spandex. Heavy makeup. Fake tans and teeth, wigs, and provocative dancing.

No, I'm not having a baby-and-responsibility-free wild night out at a strip club. I'm actually sitting on my couch watching the trainwreck that is Toddlers and Tiaras. If you've never seen this reality television show, please check out some clips {and try not to die of shock} on TLC's website.

I watch this show every now and then when there isn't anything else on TV. It has always slightly disturbed me, but the venom didn't start to flow until recently. A few days ago, an 11 week old baby was competing in a pageant. 11 weeks old?!? The announcer laughed as he said, "Serenity is 11 weeks old and enjoys sleeping 18 hours a day hahahaha." Umm...WTF, mate? The baby was in a ridiculously poofy and most likely uncomfortable dress, and was fast asleep as Mom paraded her across the stage. Hey Momma, I think it's pretty clear here that you're trying to live vicariously through your baby. Why not wait until your child can decide for herself whether or not she wants to participate? Oh, and maybe I'm just daft, but I don't understand how you judge newborn babies in a beauty competition. Are the fat rolls on Serenity's legs just slightly smaller than her competitor's? Give me a freaking break.

I try really hard not to judge these Moms because we all do what we think is best for our little ones. I have to confess, though, I'm not a saint. Saying "when she gets a $2 million Hollywood contract I won't have to work anymore!" (yep - a direct quote) makes me want to vomit. Your child is not a meal ticket; she's hysterically crying because she just lost the competition. Please stop daydreaming about the fame that she will probably never experience, get off of the camera, and comfort your daughter.

The episode got even worse, unfortunately. Out came spray-tanned 3 year olds with fake teeth and wigs shaking their little diaper-clad booties in mini skirts and bikini tops. A wink here. A blown kiss there, all as the judges furiously wrote down notes and scores. These malleable and vulnerable toddlers need to be told that perfect makeup, glittery outfits, and the presence or absence of stray eyebrow hairs are not criteria under which they should accept being judged by - now or ever!

Our little girls cannot speak for themselves; it's our job as Moms to do that. So Mommas, I implore you...demand that your daughters be judged by the quality of their character, not the quality of their clothes. Insist that they are valued for their ideas and creativity, not their facial symmetry or hair style. We should not accept the fact that nearly half of girls ages 3 to 6 worry about being fat; that's a travesty. We need to change this; it's up to us.

What Carina thinks of poofy dresses. I don't think she would go very far in the pageant world.
What do you think of beauty pageants? Good for self-esteem, or for breeding future divas?

Follow Melissa, and her adorable little family, along on Growing Up Geeky!

Sometimes when I'm watching him sleep so peacefully, I think to myself, "How did I get so lucky?"

Mothering a Daughter {Guest Post}

Today's featured guest post is from Courtney, of Baxtron{Life}. I had the opportunity to meet Courtney, while in NYC at BlogHer12, and she is such a sweet person!  Today Courtney tells us about all the things she's looking forward to with her daughter.  Hope you enjoy!

I'm Courtney, a wife, mama and writer.

My blog Baxtron{Life} is a place where I share:

lots of pictures of life in New York City with our little family of three,

and some of the real struggles of my life.

Today, while Kami is enjoying some time away - I thought I'd share some things I'm looking forward to as the mother of a little girl.  My daughter Zion turned 2 this year, and while I am cherishing the moments we have now - I can't help but look ahead at the fun times we'll have in the future!

It is such a privilege and a responsibility to raise a daughter.

I have always wanted to be a mom, and I can't tell you how happy I am that I had a daughter first.

She has opened my heart in ways I never imagined possible.

There are so many things I want for her to experience and enjoy in her life.

As her imagination begins to flourish,

I look forward to creating a dress-up box for her;

filling it with play clothes and old high-heels.

I look forward to watching her try on necklaces and jewelry, tiaras and heels.

I look forward to her begging me and the hubs for ballet lessons, or other dance lessons.

And watching her twirl in a little tutu in front of us.

She loves twirling already, and any form of dance makes her face light up.

via Kasey Albano

I look forward to passing on my love of baking.

Spending countless hours trying new recipes,

licking the spoons and delighting in our creations.

I look forward to hair cuts and dyes and all kinds of hair style experiments.

She has such beautiful soft curls,

and I am so excited to see her hair as it grows longer and she is able to do more with it.

I look forward to her being a little older so that we can travel as a family to Israel,

and experience our faith in a fresh and inspirational way.

We're planning our trip for next year!

I look forward to shopping trips,

where we can chat about our love of shoes,

try on new outfits and sip our fancy coffee drinks together.

I look forward to her first roller coaster ride

and visits to amusement parks, theme parks and other fun resorts!

We have family in Orlando, so Disney World seems like a great option in the near future!

I look forward to teaching her how to apply make-up,

and doing her make-up for special occasions.

I look forward to learning all of her dreams and desires,

her passions and purposes.

I look forward to watching her run confidently in their direction.

I look forward to all the major life events,

achievements and milestones she will reach in her life.

I look forward to throwing huge celebrations every step of the way

and being her number one fan, always.

And most importantly, what I look forward to the most,

is her recognizing what Jesus did for us all,

and fully embracing the gift of salvation and grace that is offered to her.

I would love to hear your what you look forward to!

August Birchbox

My August Birchbox was amazing!  This is my fourth month subscribing to Birchbox, and I swear each month it just gets better! So with that, here's what was in this months box...

august birchbox

From left to right:

Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy la Fleur -- This is a very light scent.  I normally don't wear perfume, but I could see myself wearing this, because it's so light!  Also?  Perfume samples now have a little pump where you can spritz it right onto your wrist.  Love this!

PIXI Beauty Lid Last Shadow Pen -- I received this eye shadow pen in the shade, Shell Sheen.  It's a very light pink and shimmery.  I really like it.  What else is awesome?  This is a FULL SIZE PRODUCT.  It retails for $18, and Birchbox is only $10 per month.  Score!!

Beauty Fixation Make Up Remover -- Have you ever accidentally brushed your mascara wand across your cheek, or any other place other than your lashes?  That's what these little q-tip applicators are for.  They're sealed with makeup remover.  Genius!!

Miss Jessie's Original Quick Curls -- I received a very generous size of this product.  Normally, it comes in an 8oz tube, which is $32.  I received a 4oz, $16.  Remember, Birchbox is only $10 per month!  Besides that fantastic deal, I have curly hair, so I was very eager to test out this product.  And?  I love it.  I just apply a small amount to damp hair, and let it air dry.  That's it.  No mousse or gel is needed.  LOVE!!!

Schick Hydro Silk Razor -- It's funny I received this in my box, because it's the razor I'm currently using.  I'm SO incredibly picky with which razors I use.  This just so happens to be a new favorite of mine, so I was thrilled to receive a new one!

There you have it!  My August Birchbox.  Have you signed up yet?  If not, you can do so easily by clicking here.  If you already receive Birchbox, what products were in your box?  I'd love to hear!!

Wittlebee Kids Clothing Club {Review}

It seems like monthly boxes are all the rage.  Wittlebee launched their very own monthly box, specializing in kids clothing!  Let's face it.  Kids grow SO fast.  Sometimes, my son goes to bed at night, and I swear he wakes up bigger the next morning!  Because we cannot keep our babies tiny forever, Wittlebee created a monthly clothing box!  Here's how it works.

You start off by establishing your child's "style profile."  You select which sizes you need for your box that month, as well as any particular colors you like.  It doesn't stop there.  Interested in pajamas?  Let them know!  Don't like graphic t shirts?  There's a spot for that too!  Do you want dress up clothes, or clothes to hang out in around the house?  Whatever you're looking for, or not looking for, Wittlebee has you covered.

Wittlebee also offers the opportunity to chat with one of their personal stylist, if you wish!

Then, about two weeks later, you'll receive your very own customized box!  Each box contains 6 items, and although the box cost $40 each month, you receive approximately $100 worth of clothing!! That's more than 50%!!!

I was recently sent our very own Wittlebee box to review for Lincoln. We were sent four tops.
toddler clothing

And four bottoms...
toddler clothing
I was very impressed with the box we were sent!  I love that we received plaid shorts for Lincoln, because I think he looks like such a little man when wearing them. Another favorite was the helicopter t-shirt.  Lincoln is obsessed with anything that flies, so he was very excited!

I personally love the giraffe shirt we received.  It's actually a Wittlebee shirt, marketing their product, but I think it's so adorable...& I love giraffes ;)
Here he is wearing his Wittlebee giraffe shirt and new Crazy 8 comfy shorts...notice his hand is in the pocket.

I was very impressed with our Wittlebee box.  The stylist I emailed back and forth, was determined to deliver the style best suited for Lincoln, and she did just that.

Normally Wittlebee is $40 per month.  However, you can get your first box right now for only $30 if you click here.

Please note:  I was sent this Wittlebee box free of charge.  All opinions expressed are of my own.
