The Momma Diaries: April 2012

Take care of yourself this Mother's Day!

One of my favorite holiday's is approaching...Mother's Day!!  I never realized how special this holiday is, until I became a Mother myself.  Now, this holiday is very near and dear to my heart.  And you know what?  It makes me appreciate my own Mom, so much more!

Growing up, my Dad always made sure Mother's Day was special for my Mom.  He certainly instilled good traditions with my brother and me.  My Dad bought flowers for my Mom.  Always.  Just a little token of appreciation for being such a phenomenal mother to their children.  My Mom normally received breakfast in bed.  When we got older, it changed to going out for breakfast as a family.  We gave her homemade cards, with scribbled hearts, and sometimes even a special poem inside.  For my Mom, it wasn't extravagant gifts that made the day special.  It was something even more important. Something that money cannot buy.   Precious, memorable, time.

I suppose I take after my Mom with how I like to spend my special day.  Fancy gifts are very nice, don't get me wrong.  But the one thing I like more than any tangible item, is time with my son.  A day of soaking up his snuggles, playing silly games, and just loving my little family.

How do I still make Mother's Day special for my own Mom, even though I'm now a Mom myself?  I do little things for her throughout the year.  You see, being a Mother is something HUGE!  And why should Mom's feel special for only one day throughout the year?!  I like to pamper my Mom.  It's my little way of thanking her for everything she has done, and continues to do for our family.

My Mom's had a tough year.  With my Dad's health, and him temporarily living in Florida, she's been understandably having a hard time.  Something my Mom loves more than anything is a clean house. In fact, who doesn't for that matter?  I really think she would love to hire a maid service, but it's something I don't think she'd actually do for herself.  Maybe with a little convincing of my brother, we can make it happen.

Wouldn't you love to spoil your Mom with her very own maid service this Mother's Day?  Or what about yourself?  You deserve something too!  Afterall, wouldn't you rather be enjoying some precious family time, rather than doing the house cleaning?!

Well, lucky for you, one of my readers will win a $100 giftcard to Molly Maid!  Here's the details:

Weekend Recap

Oh Heyyyyy!  Back from another busy weekend!!  We headed to Long Island Friday afternoon to spend the night.  Jared had hockey games early Saturday morning, and Lincoln and I were going to cheer him on!

Lincoln is an awesome little traveler on road trips.  He always has been, thankfully.  Here he is about 20 minutes into our trip.  Already asleep, munchkin in hand...

The ride would have only taken us about 2 1/2 hours, but we ended up being stuck in traffic for 40 minutes or so.  Luckily Lincoln is so awesome in the car, because I think most other toddler would have flipped their shit!  He happily looked out the window pointing out all the cars and trucks...yeah buddy, their were a lot of them.

When we checked into our hotel we noticed something a bit....interesting...

Okay, so the room we got had a king size bed, and a jacuzzi bath.  What it also included were see through glass doors into the bathroom!  It's a good thing it was just Jared, Lincoln, and myself, weird!!!

We treated ourselves to a nice steak dinner at a nearby steakhouse, stopped at Target for a few small toys for Lincoln, and went back to the hotel for the night.  Lincoln had a blast, playing with his new choo choo's and matchbox cars.  However, when it was time to go to bed, he was done.  Poor boy kept saying, "I go!!"  He wanted to go home, and sounded so sad :(

He finally settled down and eventually dozed off.  The next morning we woke up ready to go cheer on Daddy!  This might sound pretty bad on my part, but part of me was actually hoping they lost!  If they won, they advanced to the final round of playoffs, which are held in California!

Anyways...we headed to the rink.  Lincoln was sporting his super cute shirt I made for him.  His shirt was a big hit with the other guys on the team.  Lincoln even got to go into the locker room with his Daddy.  He thought he was a big shot :)

While we were at the game, one of my online Mommy friends that I've "known" for the past three years, met us there with her two boys!  One of her boys is 6 months older than Lincoln, and the other is just a wee sweet babe at two months old.  It was SO nice to meet her in person.  She was so sweet, and her boys were just adorable!

Lincoln and her older boy totally hit it off.  They were constantly on the move!  It was hard to get a picture of the two of them...even when we tried to bribe them with popcorn!  This is the best shot I got.  I know, I's from the back, but don't they look like little buddies?!  :)

Oh....and they DID lose!  I feel bad.  Jared was sorta hoping they didn't make it to the next round too, so I guess that makes it a little better.  AND, he did score one of their only two goals.  So, at least he played well!!

Maybe next year Lincoln and I will make a few more road trips with Jared and his team.  He'll be a little older, and maybe actually want to watch Daddy play, rather than go sit on the bleachers with the other, I'm not joking!

Hope you all had a fun-filled weekend!!!

Weekly Roundup

Not a whole heck of a lot to report from this week.  We have a crazy busy weekend ahead of us, so we stayed low key.  Later on today, we're heading to Long Island for Jared's hockey game tomorrow morning.  Lincoln and I decided to go to cheer him on.  I also get to meet one of my online mommy friends while I'm there!  I am totally might be a bit more excited about that, than I am the actual game!

I made two shirts for Lincoln to cheer on his Daddy.  Depending on the weather, will determine which he wears.  The first is a short sleeved shirt.  Here's the front & back...

And here's the long sleeved shirt.  Jared had input on what it said ;)

I have a new favorite [healthy!] snack!  Chobani, or any other Greek yogurt, with Bear Naked Vanilla Almond Granola mixed in.  Seriously, drool worthy!  I love it!

Jared was really busy with work this week, so it was just Lincoln and me a lot of the time.  We did some building with his blocks.  Look at that boy stack them high!

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment.  Jared stayed home with Lincoln while I went.  On the way home, I treated myself to a yummy Dunkin' Donuts french vanilla iced coffee...Mmmmm!!  And I stopped in at Old Navy to splurge on a shirt for myself :)

Last night we took Lincoln to TCBY for some yummy froyo for dinner dessert.  He was surely a happy camper!

So, that's basically it in a nutshell!  Now, onto our busy weekend...

Vocabulary Explosion!!

Since beginning speech therapy, Lincoln's vocabulary has seriously sky-rocketed!  Thank heavens!

Lincoln has some new words to add to his ever expanding vocabulary! A few of my favorites..."KACHOW!!!," thank you McQueen, "We did it!" thank you Dora, "Hot Dog!!" thank you Mickey...I swear we don't watch TV all day!
Oh, and who wants to hear what Lincoln calls me?!  According to him, he's saying "Momma."  However, it ends up sounding like, "a nonna."  Which, just so happens to sound like how he says banana!  Yeah.  I'm a banana.

And his favorite phrase....

"OH NO!!!"

We say this again, and again, and again. EVERYTHING results with, "OH NO!!"  To say Lincoln is a bit dramatic, would be a huge understatement.  I think he gets it from his father ;)

He plays the "Oh No" game when he purposely accidentally drops something.  Then he acts all surprised that it fell and asks, "Where?!" Once you acknowledge him and say, "Where did it go?" [because he'll keep asking "where" until you say it], he exclaims, "THERE!!!"

We play this multiple times a day.  Even at midnight, sometimes.  But you know what?  I don't care one bit, because my sweet boy is communicating with me, and I just love it!!

Last night he took his pants off, only to give me a smirk and say "OH NO!!!"  Then of course he asked me, "Where??"

Typical boy, I tell ya!

Weekend Recap

I swear.  We can never have a weekend where we do absolutely nothing.  This weekend was INSANE!  But, apparently that's how we like it in these parts, because we always seem to have something to do.

So, what were we up to, you ask?  We had another trip planned out to spend the weekend at my Mom's in Rhode Island.  We've been there the past three weekends in a row now.  I'm really not complaining, though.  I'm a total Momma's girl, and being 2 1/2 hour away from my family is really, really hard.  Jared had playoff hockey games [he plays for RI], so we took the 2 1/2 hour drive.

BUT, before we headed out, Jared needed to take a nap.  He worked overnight the night before & needed some shut eye.  So, while we were waiting...Lincoln & I played with the front facing camera...

Seriously, every time I show him the front facing camera, he either sticks his tongue out, or does a ridiculously cute cheese face :)

While Lincoln was playing with his "choo choo's," I whipped up my very own first hair clip!

Well, aren't I turning into a crafty thing ;)

Seriously, though.  I'm really liking this crafty stuff.  I think I'm going to open an etsy shop!  But, more of that later.
Saturday I wanted to go see Jared play hockey.  I have yet to see a game this season, and I totally feel bad about it.  It worked out well, Lincoln got some quality time with his Grammy, and I went to see sweaty, smelly men play an aggressive sport!

It was playoffs, so it was best of three games.  We won the first, lost the second, and won the third!  Woot!  So, we're off to Long Island this coming weekend.  I'm pretty sure Lincoln and I are going to go watch Daddy play!  And, I just might make my sweet boy a shirt to wear for the event :)

While I was at the games, my mom sent me this super cute picture of my boy enjoying his first Awful Awful :)

And for all you non Rhode Islander's wondering what the heck an "Awful Awful" is, well you're missing out on something sooooo yummy!  RI has a restaurant called Newport Creamery.  They have the best ice cream I have ever had...but maybe I'm just biased!  Anyways, this is basically a milkshake, but better, and apparently my sweet boy loved it :)
We made the trip back home yesterday, and I was quite beat!  I don't know if it was the rainy weather, or just the non-stop weekend, but I seriously wanted to go to bed at 6pm.   However, this little guy was not hearing it...

Crazy, busy, fun-filled weekend!  And by the looks of it, next weekend is going to be even crazier!

Florida Recap [Disney World]

While we primarily went to Florida to visit my Dad, we figured since the three of us were all there, to take advantage of the opportunity and visit a few of the Disney parks. It just so happens that the person who's staying with my Dad right now was in the military, so we were able to score ourselves some super sweet discounted tickets!

We were actually able to visit all four of the parks, thanks to the park hopper tickets.  We visited Animal Kingdom first.  I haven't been there since I was 17, so that was :::cough::: 13 years ago :::cough:::

There were a lot of shows, which I thought Lincoln really would have loved, but it was a bit too much for him.  The Lion King show, while great, was too loud and "in your face" for a 2 year old...or at least for my 2 year old.  And, unfortunately, because this was the first show we saw, it ruined all the other shows for him.  There was this super cute Finding Nemo show, but he closed his eyes the entire time :(

He did manage to have a little bit of fun at least.  His absolute favorite was the train ride, but it was far too short for his liking.  He also liked walking around looking at the animals, particularly the fishies.

We visited Hollywood Studios the last time were were there, and Lincoln loved it so much, that we decided to go back again with Daddy :)

Lincoln loved it just as much the second time.  In fact, I would say this is hands down, his favorite park.  We saw the Disney Junior show again, which he was just completely awe struck.  He enjoyed the Backlot Tour on the "choo choo." And, he met his first character...Mike, from Monsters Inc.  Normally Lincoln backs away from the characters, but I think because Mike was a bit smaller, he was okay with him.  In fact, when he went to meet him with his Grammy, he tried to pull his hat off...

We also spent a day at Downtown Disney.  I have always loved this place.  I remember being SO excited to go there when I was a kid. Lincoln enjoyed it there, as well.  He modeled a few Mickey Ears for us :)

And he rode the choo choo with Daddy.  Besides the monorail, this would have been his favorite ride. And no, I'm not joking about the monorail.

Here are my boys waving to me :)

We had a fun time.  It was nice being with Jared and Lincoln, doing new things.  Lincoln took a few good naps while we were in Florida.  I couldn't believe my little no napper napped so well!

I adore that picture.  He looks like a little baby.  I'm not sure when our next trip to visit my Dad will be.  But I do know that we're planning on meeting Jared's brother who lives in Tennessee, and his two kids there in July.  He wants to do Disney with us, and more than likely Sea World...and my 8 year old nephew has a request in for Lego Land :)  I cannot wait!!!

Thankful Thursday: Date Nights

Date nights come few and far between in this household.  I can  honestly say, that if we lived closer to my family, Jared and I would be very lucky and be able to have date nights all the time.  However, we live 2 1/2 hours away.

When we were visiting my Dad in Florida, my mom was there for a few days.  She practically threw Jared and me out of the condo two nights.  She said to take advantage of her being there, and go have some fun.  My Dad was completely out of it anyways....not to mention I think she wanted some one on one time with her grandson.

So, what did we do you ask?  Well, we went to Disney World, of course!  Our first night out we went to The Magic Kingdom, and a couple nights later, we visited Epcot.

We were so giddy on our monorail ride over to The Magic Kingdom.

I think the castle looks so pretty all lit up at night.

Because it was just the two of us, we were able to do just about everything we wanted to do!  We also happened to be there during parade time, which we had no intentions of watching, so it wasn't as busy at the attractions we decided to hit up!  We even got to ride Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin two times in a row!

Like I said, a couple of nights later we headed on over to Epcot.

This is probably my favorite out of the parks, and has been ever since I was a kid. We walked through the countries, and rode a few rides...and of course shopped!  Jared and I got suckered into purchasing Lincoln one of these Disney pin trading sets.  If you're not familiar [as I was not] with how the pin trading works, you can see for yourself here.   It's basically a lanyard you purchase to attach pins to.  BUT, you can also trade your pins with Disney cast members wearing lanyards.  While we didn't actually do any of the trading bit, we did purchase Lincoln a few cutie pins to get him started :)

Anyways, Jared and I certainly enjoyed our time together.  It was nice to be out for a little while just the two of us.  So today, I am thankful for my Momma, for allowing us to get out for a couple of nights and be our carefree selves :)

Wordless Wednesday: Splash Park Fun

During our time in Florida, we took Lincoln to a splash park one day.  To say he had fun, would be the understatement of the year.  He seriously enjoyed this free splash park, more than Disney World.  And no, I'm not joking.  See for yourself :)

When you have to parent your parents

Let me start off by saying, we did enjoy our time in Florida with my Dad.

Okay, now that I said that, let me tell you about how I had to parent my father.

As you know, my Dad is now recovering from his liver transplant.  When we visited him, he was two weeks post surgery.  I knew my Dad would obviously be weak, but I had no idea that he would be so freaking obstinate, stubborn, and sometimes just downright mean!

My Dad had major surgery.  And with major surgery, comes a pretty intense recovery process.  Of course this includes exercising, and healthy eating habits.

A side effect of one of the medications he's taking, causes you to have no taste.  The doctors have assured him that this is just a temporary side effect, and will eventually go away.  My Dad doesn't seem to understand that he NEEDS to know, more than one graham cracker for breakfast, or a pudding for lunch.

As much as I complain about Lincoln being a picky eater, this was nothing compared to my dad.

My dad is 5'10" and currently he weighs 147 pounds.  That is not okay.

While I was there, I was doing everything I could to get him to eat as much as possible.  This included making him smoothies and sneaking stuff inside of them.  If I told him what I was putting into his smoothie, there's no way he would have drank it.

Now let's get to exercising.  He would seriously be content sitting in his recliner and laying in bed all day.  He was complaining about his back being sore.  I told him numerous amounts of times that ANYONE'S back would be sore if they just sat in a chair or laid in bed all day.  I practically had to force him to go for walks.

Don't even get me started with his physical therapy.  That was next to impossible to get him to do something, unless the therapists were there themselves.

He keeps saying "we have no idea how tired he is, and how he feels."  Which, yes, he's right.  However, I don't think he understands how much his transplant affects our family.  We went through this with him too!  And for him to not try?  That is just frustrating beyond words.

I really hope he starts getting his act together, or he'll probably end up back in the hospital, or a rehabilitation center.  Which, in all honesty, maybe that's what he needs.

I just want to shake him and say, "Do you know how lucky you are?!  You get to LIVE!!  Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and start acting appreciative!!"

That may sound harsh, but I just don't know what to do...

Weekend Recap

Lincoln & I had a super fun weekend at my Mom's in Rhode Island, while Jared played some hockey in New Jersey.  I don't know if I ever mentioned it before, but my husband plays professional inline hockey.  He's actually quite good.  I use the term "professional" loosely, though.  He doesn't get paid for it, so it's not as glamorous as it sounds!

It was a beautiful weekend, which meant for lots of time spent outside!  Lincoln played with his empty water table at his Grammy's house.  I just adore his hair.  People tell me, "oh it's time for a haircut," but I just think he looks so stinkin' cute!

My mom spoils Lincoln to pieces.  She bought him this little climber/slide last summer.  Lincoln loves it, even if he is already the length of the slide!

On Sunday we headed over to my aunts house for the day.  She has three daughters, and Lincoln just LOVES his big cousins!  And, I think the feeling's mutual...

Lincoln also picked a flower for his Momma....and then my heart burst into a thousand pieces. This is the best flower I've ever received :)

Jared came back Sunday night to pick us up, and we headed back home.  He had a very successful weekend playing hockey, winning 3 out of 4 games...and scoring 3 goals.  He's on defensive, so he basically kicked some butt!

A fun weekend all around!!

{Weekly Roundup}

Although we didn't do a whole heck of a lot this week, we were still crazy busy trying to get back into the swing of things since returning from Florida last week.

First of all, have you seen the new show on Disney Junior, Doc McStuffins?  Freaking adorable!  Lincoln loves it, I love it.  It's a win win.

Okay.  Onwards...

Monday, Jared and I were able to sneak out and see The Hunger Games.  I was super excited.  I finished the book the previous week in just two days.  While I did enjoy the movie, I was a bit disappointed that they seemed to cut out so much.  But I guess that's why they say, "the book is always better!"

Lincoln had speech therapy on Tuesday.  Did I tell you all that my sweet boy is TALKING?!?!  All of a sudden, it seems like a switch went off, and he's actually talking!  Not only is he saying more, but he's actually trying to talk.  If I ask him to say a word he's never said before, he'll try to do it!  While he's still not caught up completely to where he should be yet, I am just so proud of my boy!

One of Lincoln's new favorite things to do, is play with the front facing camera on my iPhone.  He's so silly.

Blowing raspberries at the front facing camera is fun too :)

And I don't know how, but I was able to get this sweet shot.  It's a little blurry, but I just love it.  He's my happiness.

Jared has hockey games in New Jersey this weekend, so Lincoln and I are staying with my Mom in Rhode Island.  I also get to see my bestie who's pregnant with twins while we're there!  I'm pretty darn excited about that!!

I hope you all have a fun-filled weekend!!

Ultimate Blog Party 2012

Hey everyone!  This is my third year participating in the Ultimate Blog Party, and I couldn't be more excited!  So without further adieu, let me introduce you to The Momma Diaries!

I'm Kami, pronounced "K-Me," author of The Momma Diaries, SAHM to my adorable sweet boy, Lincoln, and [un]domesticated housewife to my dashingly handsome police officer husband, Jared!

Jared & I met in February 2005.  We've been through a lot together in just a short time, but we got through it all by eachothers side.  He is my soulmate, my other half, my best friend.  I love him unconditionally.

On May 20, 2007, we  were married in a beautiful outdoor, fairytale ceremony, horse & carriage and all!  It was a perfect day.  This is my favorite picture from our wedding day.  It was a candid shot that our photographer captured.  We just look so blissfully happy.

On November 23, 2009 our sweet son arrived.  Lincoln James weighed in at a whopping 8 pounds 13 ounces and 21 inches long.  He is our perfect little miracle.

Today, Lincoln is a rambuncious, spunky two year old.  He is the funniest, sweetest little boy I know!

While it may be difficult at times, I love being a stay at home mom.  I love being able to spend my day with my little boy.

Right now we are enjoying this precious time as a family of three.  We're thinking of hopping on the baby making train sometime this summer in hopes to give Lincoln a little brother or sister.  But for now, this is us...

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you'll follow us along on our journey!!  And if you'd like to participate in the Ultimate Blog Party this year, click here to join the fun!!!

Easter 2012 Recap

Oh Hey!!  Remember me?!  I apologize for being a bit MIA lately.  Life has been rather busy since returning from Florida last Thursday [which I still have to post about].  It always seems to take about a week or so to get back into our normal routine.  And this past weekend was Easter...which meant we were busier than normal!

We didn't go too overboard with Lincoln's Easter basket this year.  We stuffed it with some Mickey Matchbox cars, Police Matchbox cars and a noisy police helicopter [the hubs LOVED these], bubbles, some flashcards, and a chocolate bunny...of course!

Lincoln was quite impressed.  He was especially excited about the cars.  You see, he has plenty of Little People Wheelies cars, but THESE cars are BIG BOY CARS!!!  And it's like he knows it, too!

We always have a big Easter egg hunt.  And Lincoln was ridiculously excited about it this year!  He was on a mission...

We had a very busy, fun day.  I don't think Lincoln actually ate lunch OR dinner, though.  He seemed to fill up on all that yummy Easter candy!

I managed to get one picture of me with my sweet boy.  Unfortunately, Jared wasn't in it...but I'm happy with how it came out :)

I hope you all had a wonderful, blessed Easter.
