Our Christmas Recap

Oh hi!  Remember me?!  Like most of you, it's been pretty darn crazy in our household this past week!  For starters, we had Jared's brother and his two kids visiting from Tennessee.  We haven't seen them since last Christmas, so we were very excited.  The kids have gotten SO big.  Our nephew Mason is now 8, and our niece Mallery is 6.  Lincoln LOVED his big cousins!

Christmas Eve we always go to a HUGE party with Jared's family.  His family is ridiculously huge.  His father is one of nine kids...which means there are tons of cousins, kids, and babies at this party!  It's really fun, and I look forward to it every year.  It also gives me a reason to dress up my sweet boy.  And honestly, he stole the show! Here is my dapper dude very excited about the Christmas Tree.

 Such a little man.
My Mom spent Christmas in Florida with my Dad this year.  We missed them both very much, but we were very happy that my brother came to spend a couple of nights with us.  Lincoln was especially happy to have his Uncle.
Lincoln loved opening his presents.  He totally had the hang of it and thought ALL the presents were from him :)
Santa came and brought Lincoln a train table!!!  He was very impressed, as were his two big cousins.

The day after Christmas, Jared and I took Lincoln and his cousins to Chucky Cheese.  Lincoln had a blast there, and he doesn't even need tokens to have a good time.  He especially enjoyed driving this car, which happened to be a police car...figures!
Then Daddy introduced him to this coin machine.  Lincoln got the hang of it rather quickly, loading the machine up with tokens...
...he did quite well, actually!  He won all these tickets by himself!!

With his two big cousins around, Lincoln played hard every day.  One night he passed out on his chair, with his rain boots on, of course!
We had a very merry Christmas!  It was a perfect holiday.  The only thing that would have made it better would have been to have my parents with us.  I hope your holiday was merry & bright!!!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Christmastime was always magical for me growing up.  There were many holiday traditions that we had, and many of those I want to continue on with Lincoln.

Trimming the tree, as a family.  My mom, dad, brother, and myself would decorate our tree together.  We always had cheesy Christmas music playing, specifically The Chipmunks.  It was always a happy time.  A great family day.  A way to spend time together, as a family.

Baking homemade Christmas cookiesI'm talking chocolate chip cookies from scratch.  Sugar cookies where you roll out the dough, press with cookie cutters, and decorate with frosting and sprinkles!!

Watching Christmas movies.  Again, together as a family.

Driving around to look at the Christmas lights.  I cannot tell you how many times my Dad would drive us around different neighborhoods so my brother and I could "oohhhh and ahhh" over the twinkling lights.

Leaving cookies & milk out for Santa...& a carrot for Rudolph of course!  For some reason, the other reindeer got neglected.  It was all about Rudolph.  Maybe with Lincoln I'll incorporate 8 carrots so the others don't get jipped :)

Singing Christmas carols in the car.  My mom and Dad both would sing along with my brother and I particularly on Christmas Eve driving home from my Grandparents house.

Looking for Rudolph's nose in the sky!  I remember my brother and I having our faces glued to the car windows driving home on Christmas Eve.  If we saw a red light in the sky, surely that was Rudolph's nose!

Believing in the magic!  Instilling the true meaning of Christmas with Lincoln.  Showing him how magical this time of the year is, and believing in the magic with him!

The Next Michelangelo?

Lincoln is a busy boy.  He's a very active, typical two year old.  Getting him to actually sit still in one place for any given amount of time is usually a big fat fail.  There's just SO much stuff to do and see!  Why would he want to sit still and concentrate on one little thing?!

That was until the other day.  I broke out the crayons, and rather than a coloring book, I finally gave him his drawing pad.

My sweet boy went to town!!

And based on this drawing, I'd say he likes the color purple.

His first of many masterpieces to shine on our refrigerator. I'm a proud Momma.'

Baby Talk

Just a cute little video of Lincoln saying "paci." It kind of sounds like he's saying "please." But, he's not.  It's his little version of paci... enjoy :)

Updates & Such

Christmas is in FIVE days...what?!

Yeah.  That.

It's a crazy, busy, hectic time of the year.  A joyous, amazing, magical time of the year to spend with our loved ones.

And because of that....my blog will probably be lacking its normal content for a week or so.   I do have a few scheduled posts, but nothing too in depth.

I am looking forward to celebrating Christmas with our little family.  My niece and nephew from Tennessee fly in tomorrow along with my brother in law.  We haven't seen them in a year.  I'm very excited for Lincoln to see his big cousins.

My mom is going to Florida for Christmas to celebrate with my Dad.  My brother will be coming to our house.

I think I forgot to mention how weird it was being in the 80 degree Florida weather last week seeing Christmas decorations.  Being from New England, I'm used to the cold, and a white Christmas.  It was very different, and maybe even made me appreciate the brisk winter air for a bit!

Also, Lincoln and I are scheduled to go visit my Dad again at the end of January.  If anyone is interested in guest blogging, please email me at Kaymee81@gmail.com

Annnnd, I also wanted to throw out there that we are accepting sponsors now.  For more information on that, you can email me at the link above :)

And with that, I leave you with a silly photo of Lincoln.  This was in Florida.  He put his hat on all by himself...

We are Back!!!

...again.

I feel like I've wrote this post before, considering this was our third time coming back home from Florida in four months.  And we'll be going again soon.  Next month, in fact!  We couldn't resist the sale Southwest was having.  $58 flights each way.  Such a great deal!

We were really busy our entire stay there.  Big Surprise, I know.

We arrived Wednesday night and stayed until Sunday morning. During our stay we went to a zoo and back to Sea World again!  We have season passes to Sea World until the end of this month, so we figured we'd take advantage of that.  Lincoln totally remembered Sea World.  He was all excited to see Shamu again!

However, as much as he likes the real Shamu, he was a little unsure about the the the character.  Lincoln and I had our picture taken with my cousin, and he was a little indifferent about the situation.

Here are two photos of our trip. One of us with Shamu. And the other just of me and my sweet boy :)

We are all about the handprints this year!

The other day I posted about the salt dough handprints we made.  Well, the other night we whipped up some more handprint gifts! My father LOVES the Patriots.  I found this awesome Patriots football on amazon that is white....perfect for little handprints showing up!

We did this project while Daddy was home.  First he painted Lincoln's hand blue....which he thought was way awesome by the way :)

Then we placed his hands one at a time on the football.  The left hand definitely came out better than the right, but my Dad will love it for sure.  I also wrote Lincoln's name and 12/2011 on the football.

While we had Lincoln's hands blue and already painted.  We decided to do his baseball handprint gift that we're giving to my brother.  My brother is baseball OBSESSED!  You should see the stuff he has already bought for Lincoln.  This one was a little harder, because Lincoln had to grasp the ball.  We chose to do it with his left hand, because my brother always says Lincoln is going to be a left handed pitcher :)

Another fun and easy peasy handmade gift for the holidays...or any occasion, really!

[almost] Wordless Wednesday

Just another cutie picture of my sweet boy for your day!

On another note, Lincoln and I head to Florida tonight for the next four days.  While I don't have any guest bloggers lined up this time, I do have a scheduled post from myself!  Look at me all on top of things :::pats self on back:::

OH, and does my kid not look like he's perfecting his modeling pose?! Pin It Now!

Salt Dough Handprints.

These seem to be all the rage this year, thanks to Pinterest.  With my family especially, we are downscaling Christmas a bit this year...with the exception of Lincoln, of course.  We are all flying to and from Florida to visit my Dad.  Any extra money is really going towards flights right now.

I could not skip out entirely though.  My brother and I are getting my Mom a Keurig because she totally deserves that luxury.  She's going through so much right now, being home and working, while her husband is 1500 miles away.  She will probably yell at us for getting it for her, but we really don't care.  She deserves a little something special just for her. Something that will make her day a little brighter.

On the other hand.  Having a toddler is ridiculously fun [like you didn't already know that].  Lincoln is at the age where we can do some fun homemade gifts!!!  I for one think a homemade gift is more sentimental than something store bought.  And when it comes from a sweet little boy...well, that just makes it all the more special!

Lincoln & I whipped up some salt dough handprints last week.  Here's what I used:

2 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 cup of water

You have to knead the dough for awhile to get the right consistency, which is equivalent to play-doh.  Next I rolled the dough into four [just about] equal circles.  Now came the fun part.  Lincoln pressed his hand onto the dough.  He was awesome at this.  The look of amazement when I pulled his hand up was priceless.  I wish someone else was there to get a picture of his face.  Pure astonishment!

We put them into the oven at 200 degrees for 2 hours.  I think they could have baked maybe 30 minutes longer, so I'll have to remember that for the future.  Here's what they looked like when they came out...

salt dough handprints
They were not entirely hardened, so I left them to hang out for 5 days.  Last night we painted the dough around the handprint.  I wanted to leave the actual handprint as is so you could really see the impression of his hand. I'm really happy with the results...
salt dough handprints
And on the back I signed Lincoln's name and 12/2011.

Originally these were meant to be ornaments, but they're pretty big, and REALLY heavy.  I'm thinking we'll display them with a small easel stand instead.

I am keeping one for ourselves, one is going to my Mom, one to my in laws, and the other we're bring to Florida with us tomorrow to give to my Dad.

This project was way fun.  In fact, I plan on doing it again next week when my niece and nephew come  to visit from Tennessee.  That way my in laws can receive one from all of their grandchildren.  Although my in laws drive me nuts, I try my hardest to be a good decent daughter in law.

If you have little ones, you should definitely try this out!  You'll have just as much fun, if not MORE fun than them :)

Weekend Recap

It was a busy, fun-filled weekend in our household! Lincoln and I planned a last minute trip to go visit my Dad in Florida this Wednesday, so I'm trying to get all our Christmas decorating and wrapping done before we leave.  I feel like I have SO much to do beforehand.  We're only going for four days, but when we come back my brother in law, niece, and nephew from Tennessee are flying in just a couple days later!  My Christmas cards still have not arrived in the mail.  If they don't hurry up, I might end up having to address them all while I'm in Florida! Not to mention if they don't arrive at all before I leave.  Then they won't go out until NEXT Tuesday's mail at the earliest.  Ugh.

Anyways, we did some decorating this weekend.  I almost forgot how cute Lincoln's stocking is.  We ordered it from Pottery Barn Kids last year.  We don't have a fireplace, but we have this little "mantle" looking thing on our entertainment stand.  Jared thought the stockings would look cute hung from there, and I'd have to agree!

I need to find a cute stocking for our Evy pup.  Right now our cat Oliver has two!   Speaking of Evy, her and Lincoln have been playing so nicely lately.  I really think they are going to be best buds.  I just love how protective she is of him already.  He's her boy.
Sunday Jared had to work, so Lincoln and I had a pajama day.  I wrapped presents and sipped on pumpkin spice coffee while he played with his new Little People airplane and spaceship.

Of course we also watched some football.  GOOOO PATS!!!

And Lincoln took a little nap on the couch :)

We had a great weekend.  Stayed in the house.  But got a lot accomplished, and soaked in some family time.

Now, I need to pack for our little 4 day vacation to see my Dad!

Discipline

It's a topic with much controversy.  But as parents, it's something we have to deal with.  How will we discipline our children?

I am a firm believer in Attachment Parenting.  This is a more of a positive discipline approach.  Rather than reacting to the behavior in a negative way, you need to first discover what needs are leading to the behavior.  Is your child bored?  Angry? Sad? Hungry?  Jealous?  There are a million different reasons for a child to perform certain behaviors.

I never realized this was the form of parenting I believed in until I actually googled and read up on it.  But it seriously fits my parenting style perfectly.

I am a firm believer in no spanking.  There will under no circumstances be any hitting.  To me, spanking shows a child that violence is okay.  It provokes fear into their mind.  As a parent, do you really want your child to fear you?

This is where I have [yet another] problem when my in laws come into the picture.  My in laws always comment on how children should be "well disciplined."  Their form of discipline is equivalent to a lot of yelling, negative tone, spankings, and giving their hands a "little swat" when they touch something they're not supposed to.

This scares the hell out of me

Lincoln has always adored my father in law.  In fact, up until recently he would even watch Lincoln for me if I had a doctors appointment.  A few weeks ago something changed.  Lincoln has not been the same with my father in law since.  While I don't believe he actually hit him, I think he was probably a little too stern with him.  Needless to say, he won't be babysitting Lincoln anytime soon.

Call me an overprotective parent if you'd like.  I don't care.  Lincoln is my number one priority.  I have to do what I feel is best for him.  I am his Momma.  No one else.  And people need to respect that.

What parenting styles work for you?  I realize there are all sorts of parenting styles, and what might work for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.  However YOU are your child's only advocate when they are this little.  Whatever you decide works best for your family is something that should be respected by everyone else involved in your child's life.

Discipline is a tricky matter.  It's hard!  But, finding a method that works for your family is so important.  Everyone needs to be on the same page regarding YOUR decisions on how to discipline your child.  And if they don't like it?  Too damn bad. Pin It Now!

Lincoln's 2nd Birthday Bash!

We celebrated Lincoln's 2nd birthday this past weekend.  We downscaled the invite list a bit compared to last year where we had two parties!  This party was at our house, which was really nice.  I liked being able to do all the personal creative little touches that made it extra special.

My friend made Lincoln's ridiculously awesome cake [& cupcakes].  I love love LOVE how they turned out!

I ordered this banner from one of my e-Mommy Friends over at Pippy's Perspective.  Isn't it gorgeous?! We got MANY compliments on this banner.

Jenny from The Adventures of H3 was kind enough to send me the remaining Mickey ears from her son Henry's Mickey birthday bash.  Thanks again Jenny, they were a big hit!

I made food labels to coordinate with the theme...

OH, & next to the "hot diggity dogs," are the favor bags I made....thank you Pinterest!

We had 6 little kids here, including Lincoln.  It was super fun!  We have a huge garage that we opened up with a lot of Lincoln's outdoor toys so the kids could all run around & play.

Lincoln was obsessed with the balloons.  We eventually had to take them away from him because he was probably walking around with 15 balloons inside of our house, haha.
When it came time to sing "Happy Birthday," Lincoln was pretty excited that all these people were singing for him!

Opening presents was a blast!  Lincoln totally understands the entire concept now.  Christmas is going to be insane!!!

When all of his friends left, Lincoln went to sit in his chair, grabbed his blankie, & fell fast asleep.  Notice he's holding a balloon...
We had a great party.  And most importantly, Lincoln had a great time :)

Imagination at it's best!

Lincoln is at a super fun age.  His birthday party is tomorrow.  Everyone keeps asking me what he likes, but the truth is, he's in to SO many different things right now.  He likes just about anything!!

He is really starting to enjoy imaginative play.  I could honestly watch him all day long while he is playing.  I would love to know what he's thinking.

The other night he was playing with his little Mickey figures he got from Disney.  Suddenly he picked up this little shovel that has wheels, and it became their car!  He placed Mickey & Goofy in the front seat, and put Pluto in the back!  I was in awe!  & I snapped a picture :)

Being a Mommy is the greatest!  Happy weekend everyone!  There will be lots of birthday party pictures next week :)
