[almost] Wordless Wednesday

Don't let this picture fool you! Lincoln was actually laughing hysterically, not crying.  He is starting to really enjoy playing with Evy, and she just loves it!

Lincoln's 2 Year Stats

Hard to believe I'm the Momma of a two year old

We had Lincoln's 2 year checkup yesterday.  Unfortunately, Lincoln is fully aware what doctors offices are all about.  He is no longer happy to be there.  Getting him on the scale was even a nightmare.

At two years old, Lincoln weighs 32 lbs, 90th percentile, and he's 37 1/2 inches tall, OFF THE CHARTS!!!  He's going to tower over his Momma for sure!!

Overall, we had a great appointment.  There were no shots, minus the finger prick...which sucks royally.

My only concern was Lincoln's speech.  I asked what he should have for words at this point in time.  His pedi informed me that Lincoln should be saying between 15-20 words, and only 3 of those words would anyone understand.  The rest are normally only understood by the parents.  Wow.  I honestly thought he was a little behind in this department, and if that was the case I wanted to get him the help he needs. However, Lincoln has 38 words.  Yes, we made a list, because the paranoid Momma that I am was freaking a bit.  So, it was nice to hear that Lincoln is doing just fine!

We don't go back now until he's 3 years old!!!

Canvas4Life [Review & Giveaway]

I was recently contacted by Canvas4Life, asking if I'd like the opportunity to review one of their canvas prints.  Obviously I jumped at the opportunity!  I am a picture fanatic, as if you can't tell from the loads of photos I display on my blog.  My house is decorated with photos.  Photos of our family.  I'm not one to display "pretty scenic" pictures around the house.  I like looking at the people we love most.  Of course Lincoln is the prime little model displayed on our walls :)

I was able to choose which size canvas I'd like, up to a 16 x 20.  So, you know that's the size I went with!  Next up was choosing a picture.  This was SO hard!!!  I take a lot of photos.  I knew I wanted the canvas to be a picture of Lincoln, but deciding WHICH picture was the problem.  I finally found the one.  It's a photo I took of him last May at the beach.  Here's how it came out...

Isn't it gorgeous?  We haven't hung it up yet.  We need to find the absolute perfect spot.  It might take some rearranging of some other photos we have displayed, but I just want it to look amazing!

The quality is even better than I could have imagined.  Not to mention it arrived at my doorstep only 4 days after I ordered it!  How's that for fast service?!  Overall, I am very satisfied with my canvas.  I foresee ordering from Canvas4Life in the near future!!

Canvas4Life has kindly offered my readers 10% off any canvas with promotional code: mommydiaries can be one of my lucky TWO readers to win a $10 gift card to Canvas4Life!!!  This is a rafflecopter giveaway.  To enter, you will need to click "read more" to open the widget...then just follow the directions, easy peasy :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I've had a bit of a rough year, but there are still things I'm so thankful for.

My family. I have such a great, supportive family. I feel very fortunate.

My friends. I'm not one of those people who has a ton of friends. However, those friends I do have are true. They're always there.

My husbands job. In today's economy, I feel very lucky Jared has a stable job. He also works his butt off so I can stay home with my sweet boy.

Which in turn I am thankful I can be a stay at home mom. My mom stayed home with my brother and me when we were kids, & I always hoped I could do that with my own children.

My husband. I'm not going to say we have a perfect marriage. Marriage is hard work. But, we are a great team. We share the same values. And above all, we love each other unconditionally.

Lincoln. My sweet son. I cannot say enough about how thankful I am for him. I must have done something right to be blessed with such an amazing little boy.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a great day!!

Two Years Old

My sweet boy Lincoln,

Today at 8:43 AM, you are 2 years old.

These past two years have been the happiest of my life.  The joy and love you have brought to my life, is indescribable.  You have brought so much happiness to so many people.  It's amazing how such a little person can make a huge impact on your life.  You are everything to me.

Being your Mommy is truly the greatest thing I have ever known.  My love for you could move mountains.  I would do anything and everything for you.  My wish for you is to be happy.  Always.  The sound of your infectious laughter is music to my ears.  Nothing gives me greater joy, than seeing you happy.
The moment I held you in my arms for the first time, something inside of me changed.  Right then and there, I became your Mommy. You became my number one.  My everything.  My whole world.

While I still cannot believe how fast these two years have gone by, I cannot imagine my life without you.  You complete me.

I look at how much you've grown in the past year, and it amazes me.  You are becoming a little boy!  A bright, smart, caring, affectionate, sweet little boy.  My little boy.  You make me proud to be your Momma.

I love you forever, to the moon and back,

Birthday Sneak Peak

Umm, my sweet boy is turning two years old on Wednesday.  :::breathes into paper bag:::

I'm not exactly sure how the heck that is even possible!  BUT, there has been party planning going on in our household!  Lincoln's theme this year is....

Adorable invite, ya think?  Thanks to Life is Sweet for designing these adorable Mickey invites for Lincoln's 2nd birthday!  Life is Sweet also made Lincoln's invites last year :)

You know Lincoln needs to have a birthday shirt for his big day....

Stinkin' cute, right?!  Lincoln's shirt was made by the very talented Created with Whimsy.  It is absolutely perfect!  I cannot wait to see him wearing it :)

So, yes.  We are in full party planning mode.  Although his actual birthday is November 23rd, we are not having his party until December 3rd.  That's what happens when your husband is a cop and works crazy hours!

I am looking forward to celebrating Lincoln's second year with our family and friends :)

Happy National Adoption Day!!

Today, November 19th, is National Adoption Day.  I have 7 cousins who were adopted through foster care.  My aunt could not have any children of her own, so she fostered 7 children....all of which she ended up adopting!

I have a very small family, so I think it's so awesome what she did.  She made our family grow HUGE!

I think adoption is very important.  There are SO many children who desperately need loving homes.  I think of adopting myself some day when Jared and I are done having babies.

So today, I'm celebrating my 7 cousins.  I'm thanking all of those wonderful people in the world involved in foster care, & the families who choose to adopt.  You are giving these children a better, loved life.

Thankful Thursday

I haven't done one of these posts in a very long time.  Honestly, it's been hard for me to even consider writing one of these posts.  Let's face it, my life has been a bit of a rollercoaster lately.  And, that's putting it mildly.

However, I am happy to report that Lincoln does NOT have Lyme disease!!!! And for that, I am SO very thankful!!!

It just so happened that he got himself a virus right when it could have been Lyme....just enough to make his Momma worry!  & the limp....well, there's probably 100 explanations for that.  He's a wild & crazy toddler, he falls down all the time.  Maybe he had an internal bruise or something.  He's not limping any longer.

So today I'm thankful that my sweet boy is 100% healthy.  That's something worth celebrating!

What are you thankful for today?

A Mother's Love is Infinite

No one can love a child like their mother. I've heard this saying before, but never really understood it until becoming a mom myself. I'm not saying my love for Lincoln is greater than anyone else's...okay, maybe I am a bit. I think it's just that initial mother/child bond that makes our love all the more special.

It's that little smile he gives JUST me.

It's that little hand that grasps mine, and leads me to whatever it is he wants. He knows he can count on and depend on me to help him with anything. I'm his voice. And although he is nearly two years old, he knows that.

It's the way he runs and greets me even if it's only been five minutes since he's seen me last. The loving smile. That bear hug he gives to me when he tightly wraps his arms around my neck and rests his cheek alongside mine.

It's understanding exactly what he's saying to me, even if it is completely in baby talk. Having those conversations with him, shows him I understand.

It's when he plops himself on my lap [like he literally JUST did], lays down and looks up at me with those big brown eyes of his. His eyes show such expression. They smile even. He grabs my hand, and places it on his cheek. I melt. Every. Single. Time.

It's watching him place his head on my shoulder, and drift off into a peaceful slumber.  Watching his little eyelids flutter, and seeing a smile on his face, while he nuzzles into me.
I'm his Momma.  And, he knows it.

No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you.  After all, you're the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

Peter Rabbit Organics [Review & Giveaway]

The moment my sweet baby boy was placed in my arms for the first time, I knew would do everything in my power to give him the best possible life.  I would do anything for this itty bitty miracle.

When it came time for Lincoln to move on to solids, I did something I never thought I would ever do.  I made his food.  I got out my trusty Kitchenaid PINK blender, & pureed fruits & veggies.  This method was not only wayyy less expensive, but it was giving Lincoln the very best possible nutrition, I could give to him.

Now that Lincoln is a toddler.  Feeding him nutritious meals isn't as easy.  He will happily gobble down most fruits, with a few exceptions, but vegetables....get out of town!!  It can become very frustrating as a parent, when you are trying to do the best for your child, but seem to be failing when it comes to what they put in their belly's.

Peter Rabbit Organics offers these scrumptious fruit and vegetable pouches that provide wholesome nutrients and are 100% organic!

I wish I discovered these pouches when Lincoln was a baby, because although I was making his food, these would have been great and particularly convenient to throw in the diaper bag.

Don't think these pouches are just for babies.  My toddler LOVES these pouches!  He will happily choose one of these for his snack over anything else in his cabinet [yes, Lincoln has his very own cabinet with his food].  It makes me feel better knowing he's getting something nutritious into his growing little body.

Peter Rabbit Organics has generously offered one of my lucky readers the opportunity to win one dozen pouches of their own!  This is a rafflecopter giveaway.  You will need to click "read more" to open the widget.  Just follow the directions & good luck!!

A Case of the Sickies

I have been so unbelievably lucky with Lincoln's health.  He has really never been sick, with the exception of a few minor colds.

Two weeks ago, I found a tick behind Lincoln's left ear.  It had bitten him, and was the ugly deer tick that carries Lyme disease.  Jared pulled the tick out of Lincoln, and we put it in a bottle in case the pedi wanted it for testing.  I'm not going to lie.  I freaked out.  Jared was calm, but this Momma was freaking out!!!

I called Lincoln's pediatrician the next morning.  They asked me a series of questions, and told me we basically had to wait.  I was told Lyme disease won't show up in blood work until 14 days after the tick bite.

Last Friday, one week after the bite, Lincoln woke up with a 103.2 fever.  Again, I panicked.  My sweet boy has never had a fever this high.  I called the pedi.  Again I was told it was best to not bring him in for blood work, because it was still too early, and there was really no point in putting him through that.  The pedi told me it most likely wasn't Lyme disease, and just a virus.

We were at my Mom's house for the weekend, so Lincoln lived it up and got spoiled more than he normally does.  He even enjoyed breakfast in bed...which, he LOVED!!!

Lincoln ended up being better by Sunday morning.  He lost his fever.  Things were looking great!

Wednesday morning, he awoke with another fever.  It was 101.5.  I called the pedi, yet again.  This time they asked me to bring him in.  Not only did my sweet little Lincoln have a fever, he also was limping, another sign of Lyme disease.  Yes.  You guessed it.  I was panicking.  Again.

We had to bring him to a different office location than we normally go to because ours was booked.  We were there two freaking hours.  One of those hours we were just waiting to be seen.  It was awful.  The pedi evaluated Lincoln to rule out an ear infection, or anything else.  He watched him walk, and agreed he was limping.  He sent us for the dreaded blood work.

To say the blood work was awful, would be an understatement.  Jared had to physically restrain my screaming, terrified, little baby.  When we finally came home, Lincoln fell fast asleep on his Momma.

The pedi called me back later that evening and said that everything they tested hi m for came back normal, however the Lyme results won't be in until early next week.  In the meantime, we just keep doing what we've been doing.

Lincoln is doing much better today.  His temp is only 99.5, but he's still not 100% himself.  Being a Mommy is pretty darn scary!  I just want to know what's going on with my baby :(

Family Photos

With the Holidays approaching, & Lincoln's 2nd birthday in just a few weeks, we decided it was time to get some family photos.  We haven't done any since Lincoln's one year pictures, so I thought it was well over due.

Unfortunately, my sweet boy woke up in the middle of the night with a fever.  Lincoln NEVER gets fevers.  Like ever.  I've been very lucky in that department, so needless to say I was a little freaked out.  When he woke up in the morning, he was acting like himself, & he only had a small temp, so we decided to attempt the photos.

Well, we only got four decent shots.  Yeah.  I was pretty disappointed. Especially, because we have used this photographer since Lincoln was a wee little babe, and she has always been able to capture so many photos of him.  He wasn't miserable in the least. He just didn't want to sit still.  I know that's normal because he is a very active toddler and all, but I was still a bit disappointed.

The shots we did get did come out good.

This was seriously the one and only one of him by himself.  It was a struggle to get him to sit with Jared and me, but getting him alone was next to impossible.
And here's my favorite.  I think it captures how the shoot exactly went.  A squirmy, silly little boy.
I think next time it might be best to have a photographer come to our house.  Lincoln will probably feel more comfortable, and hopefully we'll have more success.

It was an adventure, to say the least!  At least I now have some photos to make our Christmas cards...which, I am probably way too excited about!  OH, & I have a 2nd birthday to plan....I should probably get on that, eh?

Living in the Dark

It's funny, the little things we take for granted every day.  We were without power for six whole days.  Crazy, huh?!

Yes.  This was the front page of our newspaper, three days after we had already been living in "the dark ages."

If you are from New England, you are used to snow.  HOWEVER, you really aren't accustomed to 16 inches of snow in OCTOBER!  That's just crazy talk.

We lost power on Saturday, October 29th at 4pm.  It didn't get restored until Friday, November 4th in the evening.  Insane?  I think so.

So, what happened?  We got a lot of snow [duh, obviously].  At one point, we accumulated 8 inches of snow in just one hours time.  Not to mention, there are still leaves on the trees.  All of that extra weight caused branches and limbs to snap.  Telephone wires were eliminated.  It was seriously a freaking mess!

We spent Sunday through Wednesday at Jared's parents house.  They have the teeniest tiniest generator on the face of the planet, but at least they were able to generate heat through their pellet stove.  I was able to charge my laptop to play movies for Lincoln and charge my cell phone.  That's just about it.

Wednesday night we headed to my parents house in Rhode Island. It was amazing to turn on a light switch.  It was even more amazing to SHOWER!!!  We had NO water, which meant, NO showers!

Jared stayed until Saturday morning when he had to travel back to work.  Lincoln and I decided to stay a few more days. We seriously take SO much for granted!

A generator is now on the top of the lengthy of things we need to purchase.  We plan on getting one that can run our entire house.  It will be a hefty penny, but so worth it.

So, yes.  This would be why I was completely MIA last week.  It was a mess, & something I would not wish upon anyone. I hope any of my other readers weren't affected by the storm like we were!  And if you were, please tell me your story.  I have empathy for you!!

I really hope this isn't a sneak peak of our upcoming winter....

Erin Condren [Review & Giveaway]

I recently had the opportunity to work with a really innovative company, Erin Condren.  Have you heard of Erin Condren?  Because, I had not until a few months ago when a few of  my Mommy friends were raving about their products.  Erin Condren carries a very large assortment of unique, customized products, such as stationary, invitations, address labels, and SO much more!

They recently came out with these super cute iPhone cases.  And, I'm thinking I just might need one [or two]!
I could be wrong, but I think Erin Condren is mostly known for their Life Planners.  These are seriously awesome planners.  I have never seen anything even close to them.  They are personalized to your choosing.  Check this one out with your very own photos on the cover!
I was very lucky to be able to review an address book from Erin Condren. Can I please just say that this is my most favorite address book I have ever owned?!?!
I am in LOVE with the print.  And, I just love how it says "the allen family" at the bottom.  The pages are thicker than ordinary paper, & provide much durability.  My husband was even impressed!  The quality goes beyond measure!!
